Electrocautery uses a light electrical current to heat up the skin, in order to destroy and remove the skin tag in question. The in clinic procedure is fast and comfortable, lasting approximately 30 minutes. A topical anesthetic is applied to minimize any potential discomfort, at which point the skin tag is cauterized with several touches of the electrocautery handpiece. The tag will become dry and black and will either fall off immediately or within one to two weeks. This process and the recovery time will vary depending on the location of the skin tag, and individual healing.
There is no downtime associated with electrocautery. Immediately following treatment, your skin tag will become dry and will either fall off immediately or within one to two weeks. There may be a tiny mark or scar left where the skin tag was, but in general, electrocautery provides one of the most aesthetically pleasing skin tag removal results.
Almost half of all adults have skin tags. They cause no medical complications, but they can be bothersome. If you are unpleased with the appearance of skintags on yourself electrocautery is any easy, and effective way to get rid of them.
Clean the wound daily with antibacterial soap and water. After cleansing, apply a thin coat of Polysporin or Vaseline to the area (do NOT use Neosporin, which may cause an allergic reaction) and bandage every day until the wound is healed.
