Triton Laser Hair Removal

This treatment is very safe for the skin. There are many advances in the technology that make laser hair removal one of the safest hair removal systems available for all skin colors. There are no long term health hazards from laser or electric energies used in this treatment. Both optical and radio frequency have been used for decades in medicine, surgery, and aesthetics without adversity. This being said, there are some contraindications for this treatment. If you meet any of these contraindications, this may not be the best suited treatment for your hair removal. 

• History of frequent cold sores (in area to be treated)  or genital herpes. Cold sores can be stimulated by this treatment and patient may need to take an anti viral medication prior to control breakouts.
• Accutane in the last 12 months 
• History of keloid scarring  
• Pregnant (not enough studies to show if this is safe during pregnancy)
• Permanent makeup or tattoo in area to be treated. Current tanned skin/ burned skin. Including tanning creams. 

Each treatment will result in less hair coming back, as well as hair growing progressively lighter in color, finer, and slower-growing with each treatment. It takes more than 1 treatment to affect all the follicles growing in an area. Most people achieve satisfactory clearance after 6-8 treatments, but individual results vary depending on medical and genetic factors. Lighter colored hair may require more treatments than darker colored hair. Hair can be removed from almost any area provided we can get safe access. The treated hair may appear to still grow for a while, but this is actually just the hair being ejected.  

• Topical numbing medicine may be applied if needed 20- 30 minutes before the laser procedure, to help with the sting of the laser pulses. Most patients find it tolerable without numbing cream. If numbing is required, please arrive 25 minutes prior to scheduled appointment.
• The laser will be adjusted according to the color, thickness, and location of your hair being treated as well as your skin color. 
• You will require wearing protection over your eyes when treatment is in progress and the technician will apply a cold gel over your skin for protection the outer layer and also help the laser light penetrate the skin.  
• The technician will give a pulse of light to the treatment area and watch the area for several minutes to make sure the best settings were used and to check for bad reactions.  
• When the procedure is completed, you may be given ice packs, anti-inflammatory creams or lotions, or cold water to ease any discomfort.  

• For a day or two afterward, the treated area of your skin may look and feel like it's sunburned.  Avoid sun exposure.
• Cool compresses and moisturizers may help. 
• If your face was treated, you can wear makeup the next day unless your skin is blistering (uncommon side effect)
• Over the next month, your treated hair will fall out. 
• Wear sunscreen for the following month to help prevent temporary changes in the color of the treated skin. 

• We ask that you are freshly showered or bathed with completely clean skin, without lotions, oils, creams or fragrances of any kind before coming in. 
• The treatment area should be shaved completely prior to treatment. Legs should be shaved no sooner than 24 hours prior to your appointment to avoid irritation.
• The root of the hair must be present in the follicle for the laser to identify it, so avoid waxing, epilating, use of depilatory creams or anything that might disturb the hair follicle.
• Stay out of direct sunlight for at least 3 days prior to your appointment (& 3 days after). 
• Do not use self-tanner or spray tan products for at least 2 weeks before your treatment.
• Do not have any active tan for at least 2 weeks prior to your treatment 
• Avoid drinking more than 2 alcoholic beverages 24 hours before your treatment.
• Discontinue Retin-A 2 days before and 2 days after treatment in the area to be treated. 

• Redness & bumps are normal immediately after your treatment; these may last up to 2 hours or longer.
• It is normal for the treated area to feel like a sunburn for a few hours. You should use a cold compress if the sensitivity continues. If there is any crusting, apply an antibiotic cream. 
• Darker pigmented skin may have more discomfort than lighter skin & may persist longer.
• Cleanse the area treated gently. The treated area may be washed gently with a mild soap. Skin should be patted dry & not rubbed during the first 48 hours.
• No makeup & lotion/moisturizer/deodorant for the first 24 hours
• Keep the treated area clean & dry, if further redness or irritation persists, skip your makeup & moisturizer, & deodorant (for underarms) until the irritation has subsided.
• Dead hairs will begin to shed 5-30 days after your treatment. Stubble, representing dead hair being shed from the hair follicle, will appear within 5-30 days from the treatment date. That is normal & they will fall out quickly. 
• Exfoliate to speed up hair shedding. Anywhere from 5-30 days after the treatment, shedding of the hair may occur & this may appear as new hair growth. It is not new hair growth, but the dead hair pushing its way out of the follicle. You can help the hair come out by washing with a washcloth. 
• Avoid the sun. Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chance of dark or light spots for 2 months. Use sunscreen (spf 25 or higher) at all times throughout the treatment period & for 1-2 months following. 
• Do not pick/scratch/wax/thread/tweeze the area.
• Avoid picking or scratching the treated skin. 
• Do not use any other hair removal methods or products, other than shaving, on the treated area during the course of your laser treatments, as it will prevent you from achieving permanent hair removal.
